LONDON — President Trump on Tuesday urged Britain to forge ahead with plans to quit the European Union, dangling the prospect of a “phenomenal” trade deal with the United States as the British grapple with a polarizing political crisis.
Mr. Trump said that “everything will be on the table” in negotiations for such a deal, including opening Britain’s public health system to American competitors — an assertion that caused an uproar and which he later walked back.
Still, by raising the prospect of a Britain overly dependent on the United States, Mr. Trump’s remarks further divided politicians and inflamed thousands of anti-Trump protesters on the streets.
