Germany elections: AfD surge in Saxony and Brandenburg

Germany's far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has surged in elections in two eastern states, preliminary results show.
Chancellor Angela Merkel's centre-right Christian Democrats (CDU) appear to remain the largest party in Saxony but with a smaller vote share.
In Brandenburg, the AfD were expected to finish close behind the centre-left Social Democratic Party (SPD).
