Trump says U.S. killed leader of Al-Qaeda cell in Arabian Peninsula

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday the United States killed Qasim al-Rimi, leader of the Al-Qaeda cell in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
The U.S. "conducted a counterterrorism operation in Yemen that successfully eliminated Qasim al-Rimi, founder and leader of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula," Trump said in a White House statement.
"His death further degrades AQAP and the global al-Qaeda movement, and it brings us closer to eliminating the threats these groups pose to our national security," he added, but did not give details about the circumstances or timing of the operation.
