Democratic leaders are digging in on their party’s push to pass a $15-per-hour minimum wage in their coronavirus relief package despite persistent doubts that the proposal can survive a narrowly divided Senate.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi affirmed Thursday that the House’s package — which is being drafted this week — will include the minimum wage hike when it is delivered to the Senate, where it faces a steep climb to passage. The House is expected to pass its nearly $2 trillion pandemic aid bill by the end of February.

“Yes, it will,” Pelosi said when asked by reporters, noting that the gradual increase to $15-an-hour would boost paychecks for 27 million workers.
