Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese president, met with Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and Lao president, and jointly witnessed the opening of the China-Laos railway via video link on Friday. 

Xi noted that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-Laos diplomatic ties and is also the Year of China-Laos Friendship. Bilateral ties have withstood the test of changes in the international situation during the past 60 years, Xi said. The key to the two countries' strong ties is their adherence to common ideals, mutual trust and readiness to help and support each other through thick and thin, he stressed. 

China stands ready to enhance strategic communication with Laos, promote the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and build an unbreakable community with a shared future between the two countries, he told Thongloun.
