Vivian Louis Forbes
Professor Dr Vivian Louis Forbes is an Adjunct Research Professor at the National Institute for South China Sea Studies, Haikou. He is also a Guest Professor at Wuhan and Xiamen Universities and has affiliations with Dalian Maritime University and Yunnan University. He is a Senior Visiting Research Fellow at the Maritime Institute of Malaysia and anAdjunct Associate Professor at the School of Earth and Environment, at the University of Western Australia. He is professional, practising cartographer, marine political geographer, lecturer in spatial sciences and marine affairs and former Merchant Naval Officer.He has developed expertise in international law particularly as it relates to maritime and terrestrial political boundary determination. He has an excellent understanding in the problems of maritime boundary determination especially in the regions of Southeast and East Asia and those ocean areas surrounding the Australian continent. He has presented several research papers delivered at Conferences and Seminars, published articles asOccasional Papers, compiled and published two atlases: Atlas of Malaysia’s Maritime Space (1998) and Malaysia’s Maritime Realm (2008), articles for MIMABulletin and books and chapters in books. His latest publications include: Indonesia’s Delimited Maritime Boundaries, Springer (2014); a chapter titled Mapping Asia’s Trans-boundary Rivers and a co-authored article on the maritime boundaries in the Straits of Malacca. He work in progress include four manuscripts relating to maritime boundaries and two others on maritime heritage. He has facilitated Workshops on the cartographic aspects and geographical concepts of maritime boundary delimitation and archival research on terrestrial and maritime boundary issues.
